Common questions

ScreenTask is an open-source, portable application for local network screen sharing that works entirely without an internet connection. It's been free since 2015 under the GPL v3 license.
No. ScreenTask is designed to work completely offline. It operates over your local network via WiFi or a direct cable connection — no internet required at any point.
Viewers only need a web browser and your IP address with port (e.g. 192.168.1.100:9000). No additional software, plugins, or accounts needed on their end.
Enable password protection in the settings before starting your session. You can set a username and password so only people with the credentials can view your screen.
There are no artificial limits. The number of simultaneous viewers depends entirely on your hardware performance and your local network capacity.
The primary version supports Windows (Vista, 7, 8, 10, and 11). A cross-platform Java version is also available for Linux and macOS, requiring the Java Runtime Environment.
Yes. You can turn on your smartphone's Mobile Hotspot or enable Windows Mobile Hotspot (which typically assigns IP range 192.168.137.x). Once devices connect to the hotspot, ScreenTask broadcasts directly over that local link without consuming any cellular or internet data.
Yes. Viewers simply open Safari on iOS or Chrome on Android and navigate to your computer's local IP address and port (e.g., http://192.168.1.100:7070). No APKs, App Store downloads, or companion apps are required.
Unlike TeamViewer, AnyDesk, or Zoom, ScreenTask does not route video through external cloud servers and does not require an internet connection. Video frames stay strictly inside your local network (LAN), ensuring zero internet bandwidth consumption, lower latency, and 100% air-gapped privacy.
First, verify that both the host PC and viewer devices are on the exact same local network or Wi-Fi hotspot. Second, check Windows Defender Firewall to ensure incoming connections on your configured port (usually 7070 or 9000) are permitted.
Yes, completely free. ScreenTask is licensed under GPL v3 and has been free since 2015. There are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or premium tiers — ever.
